Two IPAMS Events You Won’t Want to Miss!

At the risk of filling your email inbox this week, I want to highlight two incredible upcoming IPAMS events that are both timely and relevant to our industry. I encourage you take just a moment to register for both of these exciting opportunities and pass this information on to others who may be interested.

Find Out How New Government Policies Could Limit Your Ability to Manage Risk

This week, Congress is drafting sweeping financial reform legislation that could impact how energy companies manage financial risk. Changes in OTC derivatives markets, hedge funds and other investment funds could be impacted. The cash margin requirements of a clearinghouse or exchange would increase transaction costs, and tie up needed cash at a time when the cost of capital is high, and our industry needs to invest billions in new infrastructure. Even if you’re not involved directly, ripple effects throughout the industry will likely be felt. A joint letter from energy trade associations on July 10th says this approach “would significantly increase the costs for companies seeking to hedge risk through OTC products.”

The timing could not be more perfect as IPAMS brings Dr. Vince Kaminiski, Professor Rice University, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management and Mark Lenczowski, Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, J.P. Morgan Investment Bank, together to educate industry on this “sleeper” issue.

Learn more about this important financial issue on Thursday, October 15th at 11:30 a.m. when IPAMS hosts “Managing Volatility: How New Government Policies Could Limit Your Ability to Manage Risk.”

The online price is $40 for IPAMS Members and $50 for non-members (a $5 fee is added for tickets purchased at the door.)

IPAMS presents author and industry pioneer Robert Hefner

Next week, author and industry pioneer Robert Hefner will be coming to Denver to discuss topics from his new book, The Grand Energy Transition. If you haven’t heard about this book, clear your calendar and plan on heading to The Westin Tabor Center on Wednesday, October 21st at 11:30 a.m.

Hefner, founder and owner of GHK Exploration, a private natural gas company headquartered in Oklahoma City, released this industry sensation in September 2009. A pioneer of ultradeep natural gas exploration and production, Hefner led GHK and the development of innovative technology needed to successfully drill and produce many of the world’s deepest and highest pressure natural gas wells, setting many industry world records along the way, and ultimately leading to the development of vast new domestic natural gas resources.

Each attendee will receive a complimentary copy of Robert A. Hefner’s book The Grand Energy Transition. Click here to see what people are saying about Hegner’s book.

The online price is $50 for IPAMS Members and $60 for non-members.

As always, thank you for your support of IPAMS and I look forward to seeing you at both of these exciting events!
